Community at Play (Harvard GSD)

Summary

In the summer of 2022, I joined Design Discovery (DD), a 3-week in-person program at Harvard Graduate School of Design to learn how to craft physical models of my ideas.

For our final project, I designed a multifunctional new community hub for an up-and-coming East Boston neighborhood.

I started by talking to locals, extracting insights, looking at precedent studies, and channeling them into rough sketches.

On-site visits revealed friction between old and new residents due to gentrification and the fear of losing their homes next. So my concept for this project was openness.

I wanted to ease the tension between neighbors by creating a unique space where everyone could eat, play, gather, and make new friends.
